MIP Insights: RADIO VOICES: How One Grant Changed A Public Radio Station – Case Study: KCRW
Read this Media Impact Project program evaluation of three major KCRW reporting projects, “There Goes The Neighborhood,” “KCRW Investigates,” and “Below The Ten,” all funded by a grant from Conrad N. Hilton Foundation.
“KCRW is deeply grateful for the opportunity to collaborate with the USC Annenberg Norman Lear Center’s Media Impact Project to create this overview and evaluation of one of our most consequential periods to date. Thanks to the generous support of the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation, KCRW was able to revolutionize the way our newsroom functions through a number of in-depth reporting projects that proved that Southern California—and the world—has a tremendous desire to learn more about the people and institutions that comprise our communities.”

In January 2019, we released our AFRICA IN THE MEDIA study, which found a dearth of depictions of the people and continent of Africa on American TV. And when they do appear they are most likely stereotyped and negative. Our Africa Narrative initiative hopes to change that.
We are partnering with YouTube and the Pan African Film & Arts Festival (PAFF) to encourage innovative video storytelling from African content creators — and to distribute those stories to international audiences.
For more information on the short film competition, visit the PAFF website.
REPORT: Africa in the Media

The Africa Narrative, based at MIP and in partnership with CrissCrossGlobal, is a global initiative harnessing the power of the arts, media and entertainment, business, education and philanthropy to engage the world in new stories of modern Africa.
